DutyGorn is an Italian contemporary artist born in Milan. His artistic practice spans painting, urban art, and installation, combining figuration and abstraction through the fragmentation of the human face, the use of color, and the geometric construction of space.

Over the years, his visual language has developed through different phases: from his first portraits to the creation of polyptychs, and later to compositions that combine geometry, architecture, and the fragmentation of the image. How does an artwork come to life?
Every artwork begins with an idea that evolves throughout its creation. Rather than following a fully defined plan, I allow the composition to develop naturally through the dialogue between color, gesture, and the construction of space.
The human face is often the starting point, but as the process unfolds, new elements are introduced that continually reshape the balance of the image. Lines, geometric forms, color fields, and fragmentation are never merely decorative; they are essential tools that guide and shape the evolution of the work.
Each painting is the result of an ongoing process of exploration, where intuition and planning coexist until the moment I feel the composition has reached its own balance.
What is the meaning of the Polyptych series?
The Polyptych series was born from the desire to transform the painting into an artwork that extends beyond the two-dimensional surface of the canvas. Each work is initially created as a single composition before being divided and reconstructed across multiple planes, establishing new relationships between painting, space, and depth.
The reference to the historical polyptych is more than a formal choice. While traditional polyptychs were composed of multiple panels that formed a unified narrative, in my practice they become a way of representing the complexity of contemporary identity. Each element retains the memory of the original image while gaining its own autonomy, inviting the viewer to mentally reconstruct the work.
For me, the Polyptych series is a reflection on time, transformation, and the way we perceive images. Fragmentation does not divide the artwork; it enriches it with new perspectives, transforming the painting into a physical presence that continually changes according to the viewer's point of view.
Why does DutyGorn use fragmentation?
Fragmentation begins, above all, as a creative impulse. Each artwork is initially painted on a single canvas and only afterwards cut apart and reconstructed across multiple planes, often incorporating stretcher frames recovered from previous works. It is not a process guided by a predetermined scheme, but one that evolves naturally during the creation of the artwork itself.
Throughout this transformation, my way of looking at the painting also changes. Fragmentation forces me to slow down, to revisit the work repeatedly, and to notice details, colors, and nuances that might otherwise remain unseen within a single surface. It is as though each stage adds a new layer of interpretation.
I like to think of fragmentation as an abstraction of time. The artwork is no longer confined to a two-dimensional surface but acquires depth and a new physical presence. Its separate and reconstructed elements preserve the memory of the original image while simultaneously creating a new one. It becomes almost like a sculpture created through painting.
Each element conveys a different memory, emotion, or perspective. Fragmentation does not divide the human face; it reconstructs it through planes, geometry, and overlapping forms, inviting the viewer to mentally reassemble the image and experience it from their own point of view.
What artistic influences can be found in his work?

His work brings together the dynamism of Futurism, the spatial fragmentation of Cubism, and the compositional rigor of De Stijl and Rationalism, creating images that exist in a constant balance between figuration and abstraction.
These influences are complemented by the energy of graffiti and writing culture, visible in the strength of the line and the rhythm of the composition, together with the expressive freedom of Action Painting, which brings vitality and tension to the painted surface.
Rather than quoting or reproducing these influences, DutyGorn transforms them into an independent visual language in which architecture, color, geometry, and the human face become the means through which he explores identity, memory, and perception.
What materials does DutyGorn use?
My artistic practice develops through a variety of materials and surfaces, each carefully chosen according to the artwork and the project.
I primarily work with acrylics, markers, and mixed media on canvas, but over the years I have also explored spray paint, wooden surfaces, three-dimensional installations, and reclaimed materials. In some series, the support itself becomes an integral part of the composition, contributing to the creation of depth and new spatial relationships.
Every material is selected not only for its technical qualities but also for the role it can play within the visual language of the artwork. Technique is never the final goal; it is a tool that allows an idea to take shape and become a visual experience.
